Why this matters for privacy
Most people don't realize their iPhone photos carry GPS coordinates accurate to a few meters. If you post a kid's photo on Facebook, screenshot a delivery to a neighbour, or share a photo from inside your home — the embedded metadata can tell strangers exactly where you live.

Yes — any HEIF/HEIC file from any camera (Samsung Galaxy, Canon R-series, Sony) uses the same container format with EXIF metadata. The reader works on all of them. Some fields (like Apple's specialized capture metadata) only appear on iPhone files; standard EXIF fields appear everywhere.
