HEICPix / HEIC for Discord
Sending HEIC photos in Discord
Discord lets you upload .heic files — but they show up as broken thumbnails for everyone in the channel. Convert to JPG first and previews + embeds work everywhere.
The fix
Drop your HEIC into HEICPix, pick JPG, then drag the result into Discord. Embed renders, mobile users see the photo, all good.
Convert HEIC for Discord →Why doesn't Discord preview HEIC?
Discord's media proxy generates previews using an old version of libvips that doesn't include HEIF support. The file uploads fine but the thumbnail and inline render fail.
Worse: even desktop users with HEIC codec installed can't preview Discord HEIC attachments inline — Discord serves their own proxied URL, not the raw file.
Tips for Discord uploads
- Pick JPG quality 0.85 for memes — smaller files upload faster on Nitro-free accounts (25MB cap).
- PNG for screenshots with text or pixel art — lossless preserves sharp edges.
- WebP for batches — smaller than JPG, supported by Discord previews.
