HEICPix / Terms

Terms & Conditions

Last updated: June 7, 2026

Plain-English version: Use HEICPix for whatever you want as long as it's legal. It's free, it works in your browser, we don't promise it's bug-free, and you can't sue us if a conversion goes wrong. Standard indie-tool terms with no surprises.

1. Definitions

  • "Service" means the HEICPix web application available at heicpix.com and any subdomains, including future apps under the same domain.
  • "We", "us", "our" refers to Shrestha Tripathi, the operator of the Service.
  • "You", "your" refers to anyone accessing or using the Service.
  • "Content" means the files (HEIC photos, etc.) you process locally through the Service. Note: we never receive Content because the Service is fully client-side.

2. Acceptance

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service. These Terms also incorporate by reference our Privacy Policy.

3. What the Service does

HEICPix provides browser-based tools to convert HEIC image files to JPG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF, as well as related utilities (HEIC Viewer, EXIF Reader, EXIF Stripper). All processing runs on your device using WebAssembly. We do not provide cloud storage, accounts, or server-side processing.

The Service is provided free of charge with no premium tier, no paid features, and no in-app purchases planned. See our free-forever pledge for the operating-cost explanation.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Convert or process Content you do not have the legal right to use
  • Violate any law, regulation, or third-party right
  • Attempt to break, attack, or reverse-engineer the Service in ways that disrupt other users
  • Scrape the Service to build a competing product (we'd much rather you ask — we may help)
  • Misrepresent your identity or affiliation in correspondence with us

Because the Service runs entirely in your browser, we have no technical ability to police your individual use — these are contractual obligations you accept by using the Service.

5. Your content

You retain all rights to the Content you process through the Service. Because conversion happens entirely on your device, we never receive, store, or have access to your Content, and therefore acquire no rights of any kind in it.

You are solely responsible for the Content you process and for ensuring you have the rights to process it.

6. Intellectual property

The Service, including its design, layout, code, branding, and original content, is owned by Shrestha Tripathi and protected by applicable copyright and trademark law. The name "HEICPix" and associated logo are our marks.

The Service uses open-source software including libheif (LGPL), Astro (MIT), Tailwind CSS (MIT), and others. Each dependency is governed by its own license.

7. Third-party services

The Service relies on third-party infrastructure, including Cloudflare Pages (hosting) and Google Analytics 4 (anonymous analytics). Your use of the Service is also subject to those providers' terms. See our Privacy Policy for links to each provider's policies.

8. Disclaimer of warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, bug-free, or that conversions will produce specific results. While we test extensively, image-conversion software is inherently complex (codec quirks, browser quirks, edge-case input files) and we cannot guarantee perfect output on every file.

Keep originals. Never rely on HEICPix as the sole storage for important photos. Convert copies, verify output, keep the original HEIC until you're sure.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Shrestha Tripathi shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service.

This includes (without limitation) loss of data, loss of profits, loss of revenue, business interruption, or replacement-cost of third-party services — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Where liability cannot be excluded under applicable law (e.g. gross negligence or wilful misconduct), our total aggregate liability is limited to INR 1,000 (one thousand Indian Rupees) or the equivalent in your local currency. We have not charged you anything for the Service, so this limit reflects the economic reality of the relationship.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Shrestha Tripathi from any claim, demand, or damages (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service in violation of these Terms or applicable law.

11. Modifications & termination

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time without prior notice — though we'll make best effort to announce deprecations 30 days in advance via the homepage or blog.

We may also update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be noted on the homepage for at least 14 days. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of India.

13. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect. We will replace the unenforceable provision with the closest enforceable equivalent that reflects our original intent.
